How can I clean some suede boots?

My 5-year old daughter decided in play in the sprinkler while wearing her boots. Now they smell all musty and nasty. I doubt I could just throw them in the washer, since they're suede (or at least seem like that kind of material). How can I clean these boots...or should I just take them to a shoe place?
