Can any one be convicted with out going to court?

I have my girl Friend and she is in one of the Caribbean countries, some 1 was trying to rape her and she fought back and hurt that person but she made a mistake by not reporting that to the police, that person went to police with a fabrication story and said she was trying to steal from him when he refused to give her what she want it she fought with him and assault him. but after people intervene in the case (because he is her uncle) he said he will not continue with the case. but to my surprise now when she try to get her police record (police clearance) so she can get visa to come here canada/usa she found in her records that she was convicted. what i don't understand is how can some1 be convicted when they did not go to court and the case was withdraw.
